Requirements

What makes a wallbox compatible?

To operate a charging station on the cocharge network, it must meet two technical requirements.

OCPP-capable

The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP 1.6 or higher) is the industry standard for communication between a charging station and a backend. Your wallbox must support this protocol.

Calibration-law compliant (MessEG/MessEV)

For public charging in Germany, a calibrated metering device is mandatory. Only calibration-law-compliant charging stations may bill customers in a legally compliant way.

What does OCPP-compatible mean?

OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is the industry standard for communication between a charging station and a backend system. Compatible wallboxes support at least OCPP 1.6.

My wallbox is not in the list – can I still join?

Possibly yes. The list shows currently verified models. Contact us – we will check your charging station's compatibility individually.

What is calibration law compliance (Eichrecht)?

In Germany, public charging points must use metering devices certified under the Mess- und Eichgesetz (MessEG) and Mess- und Eichverordnung (MessEV) so that customers can be billed in a legally compliant way. Only calibration-law-compliant stations may be operated publicly.

Can I upgrade my wallbox?

It depends on the model. Some wallboxes can be made OCPP-capable via a firmware update. Contact us – we are happy to advise you free of charge.
