Share your EV charger: how cocharge works

Make your wallbox publicly accessible, automate billing and payouts – this is how the cocharge sharing network works.

Share your EV charger: how cocharge works

Can you make a private charging station publicly accessible? The short answer: Yes! Businesses and individuals with parking spaces can turn their existing wallboxes into public charging points – simply by opening the station to other EV drivers outside their own usage hours.

How does it work with cocharge?

The principle is straightforward: you share your charging infrastructure with the public – for example, outside of business hours or when you’re not charging your own electric vehicle. Through a partnership with cocharge as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), your station is integrated into public networks and becomes discoverable via apps and maps.

cocharge handles everything: calibration-compliant billing, registration with the Federal Network Agency, visibility on Google Maps, Apple Maps, and all major charging apps, as well as customer service. You provide the charging point – we handle listing, billing, and payouts.

What do I need?

  • A calibration-compliant charging station – mandatory for public billing
  • OCPP compatibility – for communication with the roaming network
  • Public accessibility – the charging station must be reachable by third parties
  • Partnership with cocharge – one-time €75 setup fee, then 15% of the charging price per session

What do I receive as a host?

You keep 85% of the charging price you set per session. Payouts are made monthly directly to your account. To estimate what your specific location could generate, use the profitability calculator.

GHG quota on top

Operators of public charging points can also apply for the GHG quota (Greenhouse Gas Reduction Quota). cocharge supports you with the application. That brings several hundred euros extra per year.

Federal subsidy for multi-family buildings

Owners of multi-family buildings can apply for the federal subsidy programme “Charging Infrastructure in and at Multi-Family Buildings” since 15 April 2026: up to €2,000 per parking spot for pre-cabling, grid connection, and wallbox. Full details including the application process, deadlines, and requirements are in Wallbox Subsidies for Multi-Family Buildings 2026.

Which locations work particularly well?

You’ll get the best results with locations that:

  • Have high traffic (shopping centres, restaurants, hotels)
  • Allow longer dwell times (gyms, cinemas, offices)
  • Are clearly visible and easily accessible
  • Are available outside of your own usage hours

Conclusion: Shared infrastructure that pays for itself

With cocharge, your charging station becomes part of a public charging network. You support e-mobility, offer real added value to your visitors or tenants – and receive your monthly payout, fully automated.
